Jacob is a trial attorney. He concentrates his practice in the areas of tort, business, and insurance litigation. He has successfully represented a wide range of business and insurance clients in many trials, arbitrations, and administrative hearings, and achieved favorable settlements of lawsuits in hundreds of cases. He has also achieved favorable verdicts in many trials, including cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, ranging from product liability to personal injury cases. He also has extensive experience with appellate work, including prosecuting and defending appeals with issues ranging from uninsured motorist claims to future damages under Missouri law.

Jacob Sappington defended this sexual harassment claim, in which Plaintiff also claimed retaliation for the alleged reporting of sexual harassment. After a 25-minute deliberation, Mr. Sappington obtained a complete defense from a unanimous jury for his defendants.

In this case defended by Jacob Sappington, Plaintiff sued Defendants for negligence, negligent misrepresentation, and breach of fiduciary duty related to the purchase of an annuity. Mr. Sappington, obtained a directed verdict on 4 of 6 counts at the close of Plaintiff’s evidence. He also obtained a defense verdict on all remaining counts at the close of all evidence.

Randy Scheer, Jacob Sappington and Kenneth Sprenger successfully defended this $140 million construction defect case for a leading manufacturer of pultruded FRP products. After a three-week jury trial, the SWR team obtained a complete defense verdict and judgment was entered in favor of his client. This verdict was recognized by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as the largest defense verdict in Missouri in 2015.

Randy Scheer and Jacob Sappington obtained summary judgment in favor of the client (an engineering company) on all claims in a $110 million ethanol plant explosion case in Nebraska. The grant of summary judgment was also later affirmed on appeal by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jacob Sappington and Kayla Campbell obtained a complete dismissal of all claims against the client (with no payment) in a breach of contract case. The client, a government contractor, was sued by a subcontractor related to an agreement concerning the provision of services related to the client’s government services contract.
